The Alphabet Soup anthology is a long-running (this is the 23rd!) series of gen SG-1 stories, loosely collected by theme. The current Soup is Quantum Mirror fics.

The rules for the anthology are simple: comment to sign up and be assigned a letter. You will be committing yourself to write at least 100 words of gen fic by October 23rd. The only requirements are a minimum word count of 100, touching upon the Quantum Mirror somehow in your story, and keeping your fic gen (yes, even if you're writing an alternate universe; gen ficathons are too few and far between).

Daniel Jackson stands silhouetted on a ridge watching the sun set wearing desert robes. Teal'c stands in the foreground, watching him, wearing Jaffa armor. A large planet hangs overhead.

Summary:
Daniel and Teal'c crash on a planet with no Stargate, and no way of surviving without depending on the Goa'uld-worshipping locals.

  • It's like 11k words (now, but it's not finished),
  • it's Teal'c-and-Daniel focused stranded-fic,
  • it has two possible endings and I'm not sure which to go by,
  • the thematic/stylistic stuff I'm trying to put in to get it to match the tone of the artwork is NOT WORKING,
  • it's due on the 30th (though it won't be revealed until a week later so if I can bang out an ending so I have a finished draft, post it on the 30th, I should have time to actually whip it into shape by the time it's revealed.)

HALP PLEASE

This calendar year marked a decade of regular reccing for me: over 1,000 fics, nearly all gen. I celebrated by highlighting ten (or more) favorite recs from each 12-month period. You can browse through the recs by following the ten years of reccing tag.

Kidfic Alphabet Soup is still missing several cooks. If you are interested in writing at least 100 words of gen kidfic (the gen interpretation is strict, but the kidfic interpretation can be as broad as you'd like), please comment at this entry so you can get a letter.

I have written an appetizer to the Soup, which was supposed to be a bit fluffy and veered rather abruptly into horror with a dose of angst. You can read it here: Camouflage.

The Alphabet Soup series are semi-regular SG-1 fic fests, in which authors contribute gen stories based on the letters of the alphabet and a common theme. Links to previous Soups can be found here.

The 19th Alphabet Soup, scheduled to go live on March 2nd, is based on Time Travel. If you are interested on writing at least 100 words of time travel gen fic about SG-1, please go to this link on LJ and claim a letter. New cooks are always welcome!

(Please note: signups are on LJ only to prevent multiple claims on the same letter, but the anthology is hosted here on DW. If you cannot comment on an LJ entry, go here instead and we'll work it out.)

The Alphabet Soup anthologies are irregular SG-1 gen mini-ficathons that take place one to three times a year. There have been seventeen to date, all of which can be found here.

The current Alphabet Soup is friendship related. Participants choose a letter and a friendship and commit themselves to writing at least 100 words of friendship-based gen fic by November 4th.

There are still eight letters left to claim. If you are interested in participating, please go to this entry and sign up. New cooks are always welcome. :)

Sign-ups are on LJ, but the anthology gets posted here on DW. If you have trouble posting a comment on LJ, leave a comment at my DWJ.

Edit: the link to the sign-up page has been corrected. Sorry about that.

Luxation, for the letter 'L' in Episode Alphabet Soup. The fifty-years-in-an-eyeblink of 'Unending' from the point of view of people who had loved ones on the ship: Cam's parents, Landry's daughter, Sam's brother, Vala's father, Ishta, Daniel's grandfather, and Jack. Teen, 2775 words.

Monday was SG-1 Gen Fic Day! The roundup of fics and recs is here.

Gen Fic Day also included Episode Alphabet Soup, an anthology of episode-related gen fic.

My personal contributions:

On the Outside, Looking In (Season Eight). Part of an ongoing series: a drabble from an outside POV for every episode in S8.

X is for Unknown. After the events of 1969, the team tries to track down Michael and Jenny.

Kishotenketsu (PG). A Jack character study piece, at the very beginning of COTG.

New gen Teal'c fic: ...And Eat Pie. For Teal'c, exploring worlds through the Stargate isn't half as enjoyable as exploring Earth. Some Teal'c introspection within the framework of Urgo. Includes references to Teal'c's backstory and S1. ~1,780 words. Rated G.

There will be a new Alphabet Soup in the last week of May. Signups are taking place on LJ as usual, but the full anthology will be posted here on DW. If you are interested in writing at least 100 words of gen episode-related fic by May 26th, sign up here.

Tok'ra Kree round 4 has finished posting, and a masterlist has been made. The result of the round was 7 wonderful fics!

You can find the masterlist here: tokra-kree.dreamwidth.org/18015.html

The fifth round will begin sometime in May. We hope to see both old and new participants then!

New gen fic: Crossing the Line. ~1,200 words. PG. Ra may have punished Nagada, but Sha'uri isn't ready to abandon her newfound knowledge just yet. An expanded scene from Stargate: the Movie.

Also, we're having Allies Alphabet Soup next month, and the letter G has still not been claimed. If you're interested in writing at least 100 words of gen fic on one of the SGC's allies by February 18th, please go to the claims post over on LJ and put that poor G out of its misery. :)

Here's the roundup for SG-1 Gen Fic Day. New and older fic links, and LOTS of recs.

And a little extra from me in a pre-series Vala fic here: A Most Successful Treasure Hunt.

SG-1 Gen Fic Day took place last week. The link takes you to the roundup.

Gen Fic Day included Bra'tac (and Jaffa) Alphabet Soup, 26 gen fics by 23 different authors. The anthology is complete and unabridged, with links to individual journals for feedback.

Eight new gen recs posted this month: you can either go straight to [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec and browse, or choose from the links here.

[community profile] sg1genrecs is currently running Vala recs under the valuable Vala theme. If you know of some good gen Vala fics, we'd love to see them recced -- and if you're celebrating Mother's Day today, why not rec a story about Vala's relationship with Adria? (Admittedly more dysfunctional than most mother-daughter relationships...)

Bra'tac (and Jaffa) Alphabet Soup is currently open for signups. About half the letters have been claimed. If you are interested in writing a minimum of 100 words on Bra'tac or any other Jaffa (including OCs or Teal'c within the context of the Jaffa rather than SG-1) by the end of June, please comment at this post on LJ (the anthology will be archived here on DW).

In the rec department: [community profile] sg1genrecs had twenty recs by four different reccers over April, with another eight gen recs at [personal profile] figs_sg1_rec, in a variety of categories.

In the fic department: On the Outside, Looking In: Season Three. Episode-related drabbles from the perspective of an outsider or a minor character. All gen, PG.

In the podfic department: [personal profile] colls generously podficced two of my stories. The podfics are archived at AO3: X is for X-Files (Sam and Jonas) and Where the Future is Being Made Today (A Muppet Show crossover).

Finally, in the coming-soon department, a new SG-1 Gen Fic Day is planned for the end of June, complete with Bra'tac (and Jaffa) Alphabet Soup. I am currently seeking one-word prompts. You are making no commitment by submitting suggestions, so if you'd like to contribute a prompt or four, please go here.
